The short version
-
Worksheets
SheetGenius is named for its first product, a worksheet generator Michael built while homeschooling his kids when GPT‑3.5 came out. The model alone could not reliably produce the next day’s worksheet and a printable PDF. The product closed that gap.
-
The gap closed
Newer models closed most of it themselves. By 2026 a capable frontier agent could make a decent worksheet and PDF on its own, so Michael moved most of his effort elsewhere. The app still has its uses; its core generation job no longer set it apart.
-
Bitter
Richard Sutton’s essay gave the experience a name. Bitter is the company’s answer to the next question: what remains valuable as the models improve? It is a dedicated machine prepared for the customer’s agent, with durable source, deployments, verification, recovery, and the history of what happened.

BitterClip
Michael left his job in May 2026 to work on Bitter full time and found that getting anyone to know software exists is a separate job from building it. Making one video showed how much work sits between a recording and something worth watching. BitterClip came out of that, and of the products the company shipped this year it is the one customers came back to, so it takes most of the work now.
